" I love the dog park. it's a great place for fresh air and great exercise for both owner and dog(s) without having to keep your dog on a leash. My dogs love running free to explore the area. I didn't have to worry about traffic or pedestrians. Build the aquatic center @ the Rockport pool site. Don't raze the dog park. It would a great loss for Janesville."
CCT, Janesville

"Don't have a dog, but DO NOT want water park"
MB, Janesville

"WE LOVE ALL THE DOG PARKS IN TOWN - PLUS THE NOISE FROM THE HIGHWAY WOULD MAKE THE PALMER PARK AREA UNSUITABLE FOR A WATER FACILITY"
JB, Janesville

"Janesville has not been able to keep up with the needs of many parks already built, do not build another park that the people cannot afford to pay for! Janesville is taxed enough. Please let us continue to use this area as park and dog exercise area. There aren't really any other areas we can take our dogs on the north/northeast side other than this!"
SW, Janesville

"Please focus on maintaining the parks we have. We have a nice pool at Rockport and also at the YMCA . Whitewater has a lovely facility and it does struggles financially. Rather than creating more tax burden we need to help our older citizens reduce their tax burden so that they can stay in their homes. We also need a place where kids can skateboard safely without damaging public and private property."
KB, Janesville

"The City of Janesville has made walking a dog nearly impossible everywhere else. Cant use the Bike Trails or Green belt (since it is around the Bike Trails). The Dog Park is a VERY IMPORTANT part of life as a dog owner, and can be seen being used EVERY DAY by residents, Also it costs the city next to nothing to maintain. Stop trying to waste my tax dollars. Take care of the parks we have first.
BW, Janesville

"We love the dog park! We would be very sad to see it go."
BL, Janesville

"Save the City of Parks from becoming the City of Aquatic Parks. Or at least find a suitable space for the aquatic structures."
BL, Okemos, MI

"Please leave Palmer Park the way it is!!"
MB, Janesville

"We need places like this to exercise our pets, my dog loves going to places like this to run and meet other dogs."
CJ, Janesville

"I am opposed to building any water park in Janesville."
PT, Janesville

"I go to this park daily with my dogs year round for pleasure and exercise. I enjoy seeing the wildlife and the wildflowers and I will not get any use out of a waterpark."
JI, Janesville

"Our dogs look forward to getting to this dogpark every day and know those trails. Personally, I look forward to seeing the many varieties of wildflowers which are in the park, as well as the wildlife which live there. Why disrupt nature?"
JI, Janesville

"Pet owners that do not believe that eliminating a widely used dog park and replacing/moving it to build a limited use water park is not an appropriate answer when other Janesville pool facilities could be converted/updated and used for the very same purpose(s)."
SHK/DHK

"We do not need a big water facility. We can not even afford to maintain the Riverside wading pool. We are being taxed to death already!!!"
FG, Janesville

"We do not need a big water facility. We can't even maintain the Riverside wading pool!!! Our taxes are already eating up our pensions."
DG, Janesville

"I am a dog owner, and I would never use a water facility anyway. My taxes already support enough things that I don't use or approve of. Please don't force me to sell my home and relocate over an ill-advised aqatics center that will never be profitable."
JC, Janesville

"Please take care of what we have. We don't need an aquatic pk. Think Green! It's a beautiful area, please preserve it."
DK, Janesville

"This is a riduculous proposal without fiscal responsibility. Try listening to the public on this one. Don't build the water park at all."
SB, Janesville

" This proposed waterpark is a waste of taxpayers dollars!"
MI, Janesville

" Can't maintain the parks we have or the Tallman House so how can we afford a water park, makes absolutely no sense. I wouldn't go out and buy a new house or car that was more expensive if I couldn't afford it! Why would the town of Janesville do something so stupid!
GS, Janesville

" It's the same thing all over this country. Tear down the natural beauty for "progress" and urban sprawl. The only time developers will stop is when we run out of land. I thought that Janesville was the city of parks, meaning green parks and not commercial parks!"
BF, Milton

" I enjoy taking my dog to the park in each season. We are there 5 days a week. The exercise and socialization is great for both of us. Please don't take away this natural wonder for the people and their pets, Thank You"
MB, Janesville

"Please reconsider not only for our dogs' sake but for all the wonderful nature growing and living there. Preserve it, please!!!"
CA-B, Janesville

"All I can say is keep a place for dogs to run and play. Especially for people who don't have large yards or have to keep them inside all the time. There is always someone or something that wants to ruin a good thing. I don't use the park, but I think they should leave as is."
MP, Beloit

"please do not destroy this special area."
SB, Chicago

"I live in Edgerton and travel to Janesville often to take my dog to the park there because it is so beautiful and peaceful. Please consider another site for the proposed aquatic center."
MA, Edgerton

"We need somewhere for our dogs to play!"
NK, Janesville

"It would be a terrible blow to all pet owners that use the exercise area, some people have frequented the area for many years and count on it being there for the health of themselves and their pets."
JB, Janesville

"I can not believe that the city would destroy such a beautiful area, please save the trees!!"
PK, Janesville

"PLEASE do not take this dog park away! the area is already set up for our dogs and we enjoy the people we have met there along with all of the dogs. The other park is not as nice nor are there as many of responsible dog owners that take there dogs. We went once, paid for the tag, and won't go again."
PK, Janesville

"Please leave out dog exercise area alone and forget the aquatic center we don't need or want and can not afford. How about the new ambulence? keep more teachers and classes, help the homeless of Janesville, repair our roads. So many better uses for the money."
KS, Janesville

"Dog owners have already lost the use of the trails in Rockport Park during the summer. Palmer Park should remain for the dogs! Besides, I don't feel an aquatic facility is a wise use of taxpayers' money. Perhaps this petition can derail those plans."
BS, Janesville

"Although nice, building an Aquatic Center is not an intelligent one. Please keep the dog park (PETA) and put the Aquatic Center on hold for when we can better afford it...then build it somewhere else."
LW, Janesville

"we take our dogs here all the time. we have also paid for the fenced in area but this often gets too busy."
SK, Janesville

"I have enjoyed walking my friend's dog (she lives in Janesville) with her through the park. We always meet nice dogs and their pets along the way...dogs that would not have a chance to run around in safety otherwise. Please do not use the dog park for any other purpose."
EJ, Milton

"Let a private company build a waterpark. I don't like the idea of continued maintenance fees."
PM, Janesville

"Maybe the new pool should go to the far Northeast side like everything else is."
SG, Janesville

"Please do NOT turn Palmer Park into an aquatic center. People, esp dog owners, use the park ALL YEAR. It's this little slice of wilderness in this town - it's a beautiful, peaceful place. Turning it into an aquatic center - that's only going to be used a few months a year makes no sense at all. Why not use Rockport Park? I know the business communtity in that part of town would LOVE it. Why does everything in Janesville have to be on the eastside of town? You already have a pool at Rockport."
CD, Janesville

"we love the dog park! We often visit Janesville for the shopping and the dog park. Thats part of what makes Janesville such a great place. Please don't take that away as well."
BE, Beloit

"I dont use the land but just like farm land being wasted for new homes. we dont need any new houses or pools. there are two pools open and one closed. so why buld a larger pool. increase the size of rock port pool there is less trafic and no high way near by. I know a lot of home owners can not pay more taxes because of gas prices."
CC, Janesville

"Pets in the home are part of the family. It is only right to treat them as such. There are far too many public places that dogs are not allowed. Please leave this space for our family (including dogs of course)to be able to play and exercise together."
KC, Brodhead

"SAVE THE DOG PARK!!"
AS, Janesville

"First, we don't need nor can afford an aquatic center. One more park to take care of when we cant afford to take care of what we have. The park is great for the dogs and a wonderful place for a walk. Leave it alone."
MW, Janesville

"If a costly aquatics facility within view of I-90 was a good idea, isn't it possible a private developer would be interested? I don't think building this type of facility in a beautiful, natural area of parkland is a good use of city resources at this point in time. Please give further consideration to renovating what we already have at Rockport Park. Palmer Park already plenty of amenities that we taxpayers can afford. I don't think we need this extremely pricey one in this area."
BF, Janesville

"It isn't bad enough for dogs to be banned from all but two parks for four months of the year, now this administration, which can't maintain the parks and pools it already has wants to keep it's pet unfriendly record intact by shoving an unneeded and economically suspect "water park" which will be "active" for only three months of the year into a beautiful green oasis which dogs and people enjoy all year long. This silly and wasteful plan must be stopped."
GB, Janesville

"Not sure where the alternate locations are but the dogs need the space!"
CS, Janesville

"The pet exercise area is a popular location, used by many people and their pets. Do not destroy this green space by putting in an aquatic facility."
KS, Janesville

"PLEASE save the dog park! We used it daily when we lived in Janesville and still visit often because it is the BEST!"
VG, Janesville

"NO AQUATIC FACILITY. Look at the flow chart on the city web site. It says VOTER, CITY COUNCIL, then City Manager. The city voters are saying NO...why is it that the council and manager are not listening!"
JG, Janesville

"Trixter and I walk at the park 2-3 times a week . He loves the park. It is a wonderful natural area that we need to keep. Please don't destroy it because we can never get it back."
SS, Janesville

"Benson wouldn't know what to do if he couldn't socialize with his furry friends at the dog park!"
LHE, Janesville

"My daughter moved from California to Janesville so that she would be close to me in my senior years and chose Janesville because of its dog friendly attitude. Keep the open fields and trees. Thank you."
MK, Janesville

"Please keep in mind when trying to take a count of how many people use this area that there are many walk-ins. You can not count cars. There are also times that I know there are others in there but I never run into them."
BM, Janesville

"Rockport Park has open space and an existing pool. It should be upgraded, not rip out beautiful green spaces."
XW, Janesville

"I think it's very important to keep the park. Dogs are a part of our lives and families. We need somewhere to take them to socialize and exercise them. The bike trail is already closed to use part of the year so we can't walk them there. Don't take of one the only places we have to bring our dogs away. Please."
LJ, Janesville

"I personally use and enjoy the area on a regular basis where they propose to build the water park. I also don't think we need a water park in the city or the expense of maintaining one. I think it is a poor use of tax dollars."
RM, Janesville

"This city does not need a water park period. With all the budget items and services that need to be cut, where is the money going to come from for a water park that will only be used 3 months out of the year?"
CB, Janesville

"We use the area as a great walk in Nature with our children. You can forget for a moment you are in the city. That area is a part of people's daily lives."
HM & MM

"DON'T take it away! my dog goes there every weekend!!!!!! this will be a dumb idea"
CS, Janesville

"There are plenty of places to put a pool in Janesville. SAY NO TO PALMER PARK!"
AP, Janesville

"I love this park! Don't destroy it!"
SL, Madison

"I feel that the dog park that is currently there is more useful that a pool, it would just be a waste of some beautiful land. Thanks"
TA, Cambridge

"I object to this proposal. I do not see the need for an aquatic water park that can only be used for the summer months. We already have a swimming pool. That should be enough. Besides, what is the long term maintenance for this center going to be?"
DT, Janesville

"Citizens have waited a long time for a dog park. We do not need a water park. There are a lot of places to go to experience a water park. It seems people like to travel to other areas for water parks restaraunts, shopping etc."
MW, Janesville

"Stop this non sense. we don't need another pool in town."
KS, Janesville

"In tight financial times such as these, an aquatic center is a luxury our city should not be involved in creating. We should simply repair our current pools and leave the dog park alone."
RM, Janesville

"PLEASE NO! I have 3 dogs and live up the street from the park. I use the park DAILY and rely on it heavily. In addition to the hours of pleasure I have derived in that park, I see it is also home to other animals, having spotted 3 deer, red fox, and raccoons, etc. I'm an avid mushroom hunter, and this also is home to several edible mushrooms. I'm certain there is another location that won't disenfranchise so many dependent on an area they call HOME!!"
MP, Janesville

"leave the dog park as it is!!!!"
MD, Janesville

"Please keep the dog park - it's an excellent benefit at very little cost to the city."
TC, Janesville

"When the city was drilling for water for the city residents on the Eastside it took them 2 yrs to reach good quality water that would be sufficent to use. Now, they want to use our water and waste it with water slides. We need to preserve our resources."
LS, Janesville

"I am opposed to any major development around any of our city parks. What is wrong with other sites-like where there might be a large vacant building, or near the sports complex around the commercial area? The city should not attempt to enter into the water park industry. Consider the issues Rockford had with Magic Waters? If the city mgr wants to turn Janseville into a summer attraction, petition Great Wolf Lodge or Kalahari for help (no tax assist?) There should be a referendum on the issue."
DL, Janesville

"This is is more than a dog park issue. It appears the resident committee's opinion is skewed and does not represent the entire demographic of our city. Where is the list of residents they spoke with? Can you imagine how beautiful Lion's Beach could be with just 1 million spent on it? What if the city acquired the military property and build the water park there? They could relocate, couldn't they? How much water might this consume from the city water supply?"
KL, Janesville

"Do you want to go t the park?" was always met with joyous barking and excitement by our old dog. I equally enjoyed the commune with nature. Many dogs, especially large ones, cannot meet their exercise needs with a walk alone and need a large area to run. I didn't have to worry about traffic and knew the layout of the land and exactly where she was. Please save this beautiful, natural green space!"
DM, Janesville

"i walk my dog there every weekend!"
TS, Janesville

"If we truly are the "City of Parks", wouldn't we want an additional park as opposed to replacing a well used one with an over priced water park?! I use both of the pet exercise areas alond with Paw Print Park and the Rockport Park ski trails daily. Each time I walk past Rockport Pool I take note on the available space it offers for additional pools, etc. and the fact that it already houses some of the pumps and piping required for water! Consider other options within our city"
RF, Janesville

"I'm tired of the city telling us what we want. They are hired and elected to carry out the will of the majority of the people of this city. The majority of people have dogs. The majority of people don't swim, and the majority of young people don't skateboard."
CG, Janesville

"Hi! I can't even begin to explain how much the dog park means to my mother. She is ill and isn't able to work because of her disability, one of her greatest pleasures is her trip tot he dog park everyday _literally! She loves it so much and the peace and quite and the little bit of nature left really makes her love life, so please please DO not rid our doggy park; we have such great memories there! :o)"
MP, Waukesha

"We have always enjoyed being able to take our dogs there, as they have never been trained with a leash."
PG, Janesville

"PLEASE READ THIS "11/19 The Janesville Police today warned several people using the Pet Exercise Training Area via the parking lot on Palmer Drive, that they will ticket people for leash violations.".......... Let this be a warning to all of us that the powers that be control the police too !When was the last time this happened ? Dont let them bully you .What is next , police walking the trails checking dog licenses ."
KB, Janesville

"no to the aquatic center"
TF, Janesville

"As an owner of a boarding kennel in Janesville I know how important it is to have a good place to exercise dogs. Dogs that can run in a park such as Palmer are healthier and happier pets. These parks are very important for dogs and their owners alike."
CB, Janesville

"Please leave this wonderful area for dogs and their owners!"
BP, Madison

"Please keep the park for the dogs!!!!"
JR, Janesville

"I know Tom, and he's a great guy. He has good points and it should be obvious that the city would benefit by leaving the dog park alone."
AH, Janesville

"I vote for nature in it's purest form :) I think that is slowly becoming an ultimate goal worldwide ...so let's start with Janesville and not build an unecessary waterpark when we have wonderful waterparks near by. There are great "water-fun" options for small to middle aged children in janesville already. I would like to see a petition for how many people want to pay for it and feel it is worth their money. SAVE THE DOGBARK WOOF WOOF !!!!!"
AT, Janesville

"Aside from the fact I'd be losing my dog area, what happens If they're wrong about this park being such a boon ? Who do I see about that ? I don't want my taxes going up one cent for the intrest of the few."
MLM, Janesville

"We HAVE several aquatic facilities and except on hot summer days, they go largely unused. I wonder whose pocket is getting "greased" to build a facility that most of the residents I have discussed it with, don't want. Let a private company build a hotel/waterpark that THEY maintain - don't burden the taxpayers..or better yet, use the facilities we already have -- how often do the school pools go unused?? Build an HS aquatic facility and when it's NOT swim season, let the public use it!!"
TR, Janesville

"Although I'm not a dog owner, I can appreciate that in an urban setting pets need a supervised site to roam. Janesville has long been known as "The City of Parks" and not "The City of Pools". Given this park land is now FREE for anyone to use and it is suggested that a pool be added for use only by those who can pay a fee...as well as the fact it will destroy a previously open and naturalized park area...I cast my opinion AGAINST this site for a community pool."
JD-M, Janesville

"DO NOT GET RID OF DOG PARK!!!!!! Aquatic center is not a good idea at all. It can only be used seasonally and the dog park can be enjoyed year round with thousands of people. Much better for the city of Janesville."
BG, Janesville

"Our dogs are our family plus natural areas to walk and enjoy nature is a diminshing resource. Please keep this wonderful area open. I understand there are several other areas that are more suitable for this water park."
DT, Janesville

"We bought here because of your vast park system most importantly the dog friendly parks. Years down the road open space is far more important that play grounds. Wisdom in planning is required."
GP, Janesville

"You can't tell me Janesville doesn't have somewhere else they can put this aquatic center. We have very few places, we can take our pets & let them run. There are several reasons why that park isn't suited for a swimming area for kids. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure them out."
RR, Janesville

"When I had my dog, she loved that park! And I want that park to stay because I know that Dogs and their "owners" all over Janesville enjoy it there, and when I get another dog I want to be able to take it there to have fun, not to a place way across town without all the things that the one at Palmer has to offer. Please keep the dog park there!"
KT, Janesville

"Who's going to take responsibility for this, yet another ridiculous idea, when the first child drowns because a lifeguard misses his/ her cry for help? And a Sound Barrier will not completely muffle the traffic noise from I-90. Maybe a 25% to 40% reduction (If they're lucky). If my kids were younger, & wanted to go swimming there, I would NOT let them. With all the background noise alone, its not safe!"
MR, Janesville

"My family and our German Shepherd Bruno enjoy the dog park all year long. We are always interacting with other people and their dogs and it is one of our favorite activities. I feel proud to have such an amazing and beautiful place in my home town, and it should stay that way."
DG, Janesville

"Best use of the area is the current use - for pet training and exercise. An aquatics facility if economically feasible should be built by private enterprise."
DT, Janesville

"Please save the dog park! Keep a beautiful space open and available for many, many to use. Thank you!"
LD, Janesville

"Why on earth anyone would want to bulldoze hundreds of trees and eliminate a beautiful retreat for animals and humans is beyond me. Besides the unecessary destruction, we can't even afford to mow the grass in our parks, or keep exsisting pools maintained (Riverside). My kids need art teachers, music teachers, after school programs and affordable healthcare way more than they need another pool!"
NB, Janesville

"Palmer Park is a naturally beautiful spot and it is so nice to see people enjoying the park with their dogs and children all year long. It would be a huge shame to destroy this and I feel that there are better spots to put an aquatic center"
SD, Janesville

"If you must have an aquatic pk., build it at Rockport. Move the bathhouse at Rockport Pool and it would be feasible to have the water pk there. We have enough noise with I90, remove the trees and add screaming kids, increase the traffic, SELL OUR HOUSE!!! Very few aquatic pks have been successful. This is the City of Parks, leave it that way please!!! Use Riverside Pk, build a play ground similar to Palmer Pk add a wading pool, one on north and one on the south end."
DM, Janesville

" I've used the pet exercise for 20 yrs, beautiful area in all seasons with TREES, Wild Flowers, WILDLIFE. All of this would be gone, please, if you must have a water park put it where it belongs, Rockport Pk. City Mgr., council members, committee members please take a walk through this area before you destroy it and hopefully you will love it as I do. We live in the area and you will ruin our neighborhood. The noise pollution and traffic is unbearable now, property values will plummet."
GM, Janesville

"we don't need or want a water park here or anyplace in Janesville .. let the dog park along its for the dogs....owners welcome also..thanks"
RS & BS, Janesville

"My dog loves the exersice area. There are tons of sniffs and he loves it! If they change it into an aquatic center that would be horrible for my dog!"
GV, Janesville

"The more area we have to walk our dogs the better as far as I am concerned. It is a social outing for the walkers as well as the dogs."
LM, Janesville

" As a tax payer and a senoir citizen I don't think we need an aquatic center, (just one more thing to support with our taxes.) As a lover of dogs, there is precious little green space for them to exercise, my grand daughters use the park regularly, for my dog and theirs. I say leave the dog park alone!"
PS, Janesville

"Well done Tom. Lets not lose track of this one."
WT, Janesville

"Why does the city feel the need to eliminate all the green space with waterparks and parking lots?"
MP, Janesville

"It is just wrong to use the green space. We only have so much green space. Let's keep it green!!"
JM, Janesville

"The reasons given to save the dog park are thoughtful and respectful. Our environment does not need another source of carbon emissions. If people need exercise it can be found in the beautiful parks, trails and sidewalks of our lovely city! Get a dog!"
BF, Janesville

"I no longer use the park as we've moved to the country with many wooded acres. However from 1997 to 2004 my dog and I used that park every day and sometimes twice a day. We made a lot of friends and saw dozens of dogs/people really enjoying themselves. It gave my city dog a real chance to "just be a dog". Hanging out with other dogs, hunting, running, and swimming in the creek. There is no other place in Janesville like this."
BS, Milton

" I have enjoyed the Dog Park for years, and while taking a Written Communications class composed a small piece about the enjoyment my dogs and I took in going there to play as often as possible, describing what wonderful changes each season brought. If you have a mailing address, I'd be happy to share it with other dog lovers (I received a lot of comments on it, in addition to a high grade...). Let me know if you need volunteers for anything."
ER, Janesville

"We have been looking into moving back to Janesville. The dog park is very important in this choice. Why another water park? Take care of what we now have!"
NB, Milton

"This is a lovely area that is untouched and peaceful for dog lovers, dogs and the general public. it is highly used and enjoyed."
PR, Janesville

"My dog loves it and wants to keep it. So please keep it."
SB & BB, Janesville

"My dog loves it and wants it to be there all the time. So please keep it."
MB, Janesville

"We really love it and hope it stays. It's our favorite place for our dog to play."
LB, Janesville

"We really enjoy the dog park and we don't want to lose it. It's because our dog loves it and plays there a lot."
DB, Janesville

"My family loves going to the dog park. There are so many other places to create water parks, or skate parks. My children would be thrilled to have both facilities but would miss spending time with all of the dogs we meet each time we visit the dog park."
DD, Janesville

" Many dog owners use the dog exercise area, we need the area and keeping it where it is located now is the best solution. The majority of the city does not want a new aquatics facility built anywhere in the city anyway."
LK, Janesville

"Palmer Park does not need one more thing added; all water park proposals I've seen estimate a 12M cost - curious how City Manager calculated est. 5M cost. Revitalizing existing pools at Palmer, Rockport and Riverside Parks and assisting with needed Tallman House rehab would be far more fiscally responsible...but then, that's a foreign concept to him."
CS, Wauconda, IL

"we dont need a big aquatic pool at all, use that money to do other things that need to be taken care of in janesville. and keep the dog park, dogs need a place to run and exercise."
SC, Janesville

"I adopted a dog from the Rock Co. Human Society in June 2007. This is my first dog ownership and I would be very disappointed and disheartened if the current dog park was eliminated. I do not have a big yard or another play area for my yellow lab. I rely heavily on the Palmer Park dog training facilities."
CC, Janesville

" We have ten acres. My dog gets tied of the same old land so we take her to Kiswauketoe and GW College. Animals need space to roam to provide affection and care for their partners. Build the aqautic center elsewhere"
MR, Lake Geneva

"i run my dogs every other day. dont wreck a good thing."
DG, Janesville

"The taxpayers cannot abide another white elephant on our backs. We can't afford to maintain what we have now. Stope thinking up outrageous things for us to pay for. Listen to your constituency!!! If they go ahead with this, they are proving once and for all that they don't care what we have to say."
CM, Janesville

" I DO NOT HAVE DOGS, I HAVE CHILDREN. THERE HAS TO BE A BETTER LOCATION FOR AN AQUATIC CENTER. THE DOGS NEED THEIR EXERCISE AND THE DOG PARK IS THE BEST PLACE TO GET IT."
AS, Edgerton

" I believe the dog park brings a sense of community to all the people who bring their dogs there. It makes more sense to leave something there that's used year round rather than have something that will be limited to one season."
JK, Janesville

"Even though I am not a resident of Janesville, I work in Janesville and would enjoy the opportunity of having the Palmer Park available to me to use with my hound. A water park just does not seem like a practical or logical alternative for the use of the land."
KB, Roscoe, IL

" Our city manager is talking about all the cuts that will have to be made in the2009 budget and then they want to build a Water Park!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep our services where they are and forget the water park untill the time comes that it can support itself......will probably be just like the ice arena........a drain on Janesville."
VK, Janesville

"The dog training and exercise area is one of the few areas on the east side of Janesville that remains unscathed. The benefit of using this area as a dog park, is in that it remains in its relatively natural wooded state, while remaining useful for joggers, cross country skiers, and pet owners. The last thing Janesville needs is a cookie cutter aquatic park. I think this city needs to concentrate on getting decent higher paying jobs and less on more expensive public facilities."
LK, Janesville

"Talk to the people of Whitewater. Whitewater could not sustain its water park and it is indoors and used year round. Mercy had to take it over and it is still losing money."
TN, Whitewater

"I take my dog to this park. It is the only place she can run and play with other dogs."
SK, Beloit

"NO! NO! NO! This is a service that should be provided by the private sector.
SC, Janesville

"The Palmer Park dog park was set aside just for dogs. It is used year round. A waterpark in that area violates that agreement and would only be used several months of the year. The water parks now do not even pay for themselves and this one would not either."
CT, Janesville

" THE DOG PARK ON PALMER PARK PROPERTY IS A CITY TREASURE, USED BY MANY MORE PEOPLE AND DOGS THAN THE CITY FATHERS REALIZED. PLEASE SAVE THIS PARK. A WATER PARK IS NOT NEEDED TO COMPETE WITH PRIVATE ENTERPRIZE. THANKS"
DN, Janesville

"I have been using PETA at Palmer Park daily for 12 years at least. Please don't do away with it. It is so convenient for me to get to and easy for me to walk it."
DV, Janesville

"When I was told about this i was appalled! We already have one pool and I dont know of many people who use it? Mostly, everytime I driver past Rockport, it is little kids. So why dont we just keep the dog park and let everyone keep going about their business?"
AG, Janesville

"I truly believe that we DO NOT need an aquatic park in Janesville right now. And we certainly don't need it in THAT location nor do we need to be spending our tax dollars on it."
BA, Janesville

"This is not only a dog park... it's also a place to go for a quiet lunch or break. With so much building going on all the time, we really need more peaceful, quiet 'green' space. Not another attraction to bring in people who don't care about the park or our city. As a dog owner and animal rescue volunteer, I go to this park with my pets and sometimes for a moment of peace during a busy work day. Save our dog park!!!"
MC, Janesville

"Deer, fox, squirrels, rabbits, snakes and birds also inhabit the area and are enjoyed by many who use the area. Walkers, joggers and cross-country skiers also use the area. We need to save undeveloped space, as too much is being altered. If a water park is such good idea, why doesn’t a private company build and operate it with out any tax assistance. Do not see need for water park in Janesville. Need to work to reduce taxes and government. Please listen to the people."
BM, Janesville

" It is really disappointing that the City of Parks wants to again destroy a beautiful park with old growth trees. You can't just replant them somewhere else, and you can't replace the animal habitat once it is destroyed. With all the talk about reducing our "Carbon Footprint", it's a shame that Janesville can't be progressive thinking enough to stop some of this development."
BA, Janesville

"Don't decimate the dog park! Flat, wooded, natural space is a retreat for my dog and me after a long day."
MS, Janesville

"Please leave the Palmer Park Dog Park alone! It's the only park of its kind."
SL, Janesville

"To lose this park to a bunch of concrete would be a great loss to the community I know that trees have been planted there in belief this park would remain, It is used everyday now and to replace it with a park that can only be used seasonal is wrong, consider spending tax payer money on existing water facilities or at the schools pools. Please don't destroy Palmer Park!"
DH, Janesville

"I have used the dog exercise area for three years and I vote "no" new aquatic facility for Janesville regardless of where it is located."
LK, Janesville

"Going to this park is a family event. We have three dogs that we take to the park on a regular basis all year round. My wife loves for the three of us and our dogs to walk the trails, that is her favorite part of the outting. It's like a nature walk right here in our back yard."
SM, Janesville

"i am tired of everything becoming so child friendly."
NB, Madison

"WE NEED A REFERENDUM, FOR ALL OF THESE CRAZY PARKS, TO STOP THE INSAINITY. THOUGHT THE BUDGET WAS IN NEED OF MONEY....OR IS THERE SHUFFLING OF MONIES????? NO WATER PARK!!!!"
JL, Janesville

"My name is ***** *****. I am twelve years old. I think dogs need to be let off their leashes and able to run around. What better place to do this than in the beautiful acres of woods and trails of the dog park. My mother has been taking our dogs and myself to the dog park for as long as I can remember. I love to watch our dogs run through the trails and splash in the waters of the creek. This place holds many memories and means alot to me. So please don't destroy the dog park."
CW, Janesville

"We have brought our dogs to this park for several years and it is used by many others. You can sometimes find the parking lot full from dog walkers. The dog park gets more use year round than any other park in the city. There are several other locatons that would be more suitable for an aquatic center."
WS, Janesville

" If an outdoor water park of such limited use seems like a money-making draw, let a private business build it, market it and maintain it. I can't imagine it turning enough profit that any business person would be interested. Plus, we can't afford to maintain the parks we have - why build MORE we can't afford to maintain? Lastly, Palmer Park is the nicest of all 3 dog parks - offering shade, scenic trails and a creek. Leave it be for humans and dogs to enjoy."
TA, Janesville

"While I have 2 kids that would love a water park in Janesville. I think we need to fix the pools we have (including riverside) and leave the "water parks" to private "for profit" companies. My taxes are already high enough with the school repairs, which were needed, don't need another jump."
KG, Janesville

"I'm a former Janesville area resident and big fan of Palmer Park as it currently is."
AM, San Antonio, TX

"I don't want a Water Park. My Taxes are going out of site now. The Dells started out with just outdoor Parks, Needed more income so Now they are Building Indoor Water Parks. Doesn't that tell you something?"
RW, Janesville

"I go to the dog park every day with three dogs. They love it down there."
SP, Janesville

"My dog is now 7 1/2 years old. 365 days a year Chance has made at least one and most days two trips to the dog park at Palmer Park daily. To me, this park is a great attraction. I knew that when Mr. Sheiffer approved Paw Print Park it would be just a matter of time before he would attempt to take our park away. Why not put the water park in Riverside and rehab that side of town? Because the city has an initiaitive for east side of towners - that's why."
RP, Janesville

"The area is perfect for dogs to exercise and socialiize. Dog owners need somewhere to go on this side of town. Why are swimmers given preference over dog owners? The trees make a great noise buffer for the surrounding residential area. I think using that area would be a horrible choice for an aquatic center with the traffic noise. Also, I am not fond of the additional traffic that would accompany such a facility in this area.
CW, Janesville

"I have used this park since the third grade. I am now 29 years old and have taken many past and present pets for walks there. I have a deep passion for this area and the surrounding woods. If there is anything I can do to help feel free to drop a line. I also have two children and when we want to go to an aquatic center I prefer to leave town as I like Janesville the way it is.

thanks"
DE, Janesville

"Was it yesterday's newspaper that said 2008 budget is very tight? Why a waterpark at all? I think that is what your petition should be."
PM, email to savethedogpark@charter.net

"I will be honest and say I have not read really any of your site. I will definitely read it all cuz I don't really support the water park thing either. At first I was very excited about the idea but the more I learn about it, the less I want it here... But I am VERY interested in your site and will be sure and pass it on to as many of my friends and family in Janesville as I can. Thank you for your time."

"My young kids and two golden retreivers love the dog park. We use this nature wonderland 12 months a year. My kids and dogs think this is 'Janesville's Best Park.' Why would anyone want to destroy this beautiful acreage and replace it with a cement beach that will only be used three months out of the year? Please don't destroy these beautiful trails and open meadows. There are very few places we can take our pets to exercise in Janesville. Please leave our park alone."
HW, Janesville

"The city needs to stop spending money on things that would already be done by a private enterprise if there was a true market or need for it."
QS, Janesville

"It is a bad idea to remove a dog park but an even worse idea to have a taxpayer funded water park..."
PW, Janesville

"It's about time we throw a few members off the city council, you now the ones who have vested interests in construction , because they and other BIG WIG members are always suggesting build, build, build, but who will pay. It will be the TAX payers of Janesville..."
BW, Janesville

"(1) The cost of building an aquatic center is just the tip of the iceberg, as can be shown by the money now needed for major repairs on Rockport Pool. This is not a priority for our tax dollars.
(2) The dog park is not vacant land. It is a bit of wildness that offers refreshment and tranquility. I have been walking the trails for more than 30 years and know that many others also use them in all weathers. The land is important to me. Council members -- put an end to your schemes."
SC, Janesville

"please save the total dog park area. a water park needs to be built somewhere else if needed. i am also oppose[d] to the water park. we cannot take care of the parks we already have. janesville resident for over 62 years and a fourth ward homewoner thanks. please use our tax dollars to help out the older neighborhoods."
JW, Janesville

"I am all for the pool, just don't take away our space to enjoy our dogs. The dogs live for the wooded trails and the creek. It's so much better than the fenced in dog park. There are trails winding, things to explore, room to roam and still so protected. Please reconsider. Put the pool in a better place."
KS, Janesville

"Leave Palmer Park alone...it is a jewel in the city with its hiking trails, tennis courts, kids pool and dog park. *** is the council thinking? The city seems unable to fund local schools (All City Sing-Along, Book Battle cancelled, teachers cut), so how can we afford an aquatic center? How often do (and how many) people from Janesville go to the Dells or the park in Rockford anyways? You're not going to seriously compete with either location. What a waste of the tax base."
JF, Milton

"An aquatic Park would be nice, however NOT at Palmer Park!"
JG, Janesville

"The costs and risks to build and maintain an aquatics park in Janesville will be far more that the benefits it will bring. The proposal should be reconsidered using the data gathered by Tom Edwards on the website savethedogpark.com. It seems obvious that much of that data was not considered in the original plans for the aquatic park."
CM, Janesville

"The current low-maintenance use of this area of Palmer Park is the best use. At a time when we are already faced with stiff tax increases from the State and school district, the waterpark is an unnecessary luxury. Let us take care of our needs before our wants. Fix what we have now and push any plans for a new facility into the future. Frankly, redevelopment of the downtown should be a higher priority for the city than a recreational facility. As should any commerce related project."
JM, Janesville

"I do not want an aquatic center at all! It is ridiculous to spend millions of dollars on an aquatic center that can only be used for 90 days.
LS, Janesville

"The placement of the water park at Palmer Park is problematic for many reasons. It would be used for less than 3 months every year; it would ruin a beautiful urban park forever; dog owners would lose a convenient, appropriate place to exercise their dogs; if a waterpark were financially viable, the private sector would build one; city taxpayers would subsidize use of the park for users from out-of-town; and why out it in Palmer Park when the south side of town is begging for development?"
KH, Janesville

"Let's put money back into the great parks we already have!"
RB, Janesville

"My husband and I have been walking Ginger, a Weimaraner/Chesapeake Bay Retreiver mix, who needs room to exercise daily for 5 1/2 years. We live on the north side of the city of Janesville and this is the closest dog park for us to visit. Ginger has benefited greatly from the socialization from other dogs and their masters. Better socialized dogs means better better behaved dogs and less negative related iss in your neighbor[hood].
CS, Janesville

" Janesville is the city of parks, correct. We already have Rockport Park, build it out there. We the pet owner of Janesville only have three parks for us and our pets. People have the rest. Leave our dog parks alone. I have been using the Afton Rd. park and Palmer park for over 10 years. Our dogs LOVE it there. They look forward to going to the parks. Our dogs are down at Palmer at least 2 times a day. Please leave the dog parks alone."
JB, Janesville

"I have been using the Palmer Park PETA since 1995 at least. I use it 365 days of the year, in rain or shine, in 95 degrees or -20 degrees. We are now in our mid to late 60's. This park is ideal for us. Reasonably close and fairly flat and easy walking. Please don't get rid of it."
